Monthly Wrap - July

July has whizzed by bringing some great results and some exciting new industry developments.

Devonport Winners!

Devonport was a standout for us this month with two great wins on the 12th under bright sunny skies coming from Gone Girl and Argyle Beach (great timing for us considering all racing is now on the Tapeta surface until 20th September, but more on that later). Gone Girl put in a ripper to win with Kyle Maskiell aboard.  Argyle Beach notched up his 2nd win after another great ride from Kyle Maskiell.  A great welcome back for Kyle after 4 years away from racing.

Argyle Beach is getting us a little excited to see what his summer campaign can bring, showing some excellent form and great work on the track.

Grass track on hold

From now on, all race meetings will be held on the Tapeta surface at Devonport until 20th September, giving the grass tracks a rest to be ready for a bumper spring/summer racing calendar. The synthetic makeup of the Tapeta surface makes it much more resistant to rain, wear and tear meaning it’s a much more efficient surface under a heavy workload across trials and race meetings.

Stable Assist

JKB Racing were invited by Racing Austrialia to participate in the trainer pilot program to trial the new industry program, Stable Assist via myhorseracing.horse.  This portal allows trainers to manage their stable returns, nominations, acceptances, scratchings, gear details etc all online in a new user friendly format.  The aim is to have this system rollout to all Trainers nationally toward the end of August.

Team news

Our lovely Brittany Kirkman (pictured above) has headed off on maternity leave. Britt has been an integral part of our team over the past four years and will be sorely missed in the coming months. That aside, our amazing JKB team are ready to take the reigns (so to speak) and continue to work with our horses keeping them in top condition. We wish Britt and Tom all the best as they prepare for parenthood!

As we say farewell to Britt, we welcome Darian Richardson to the ground staff team. Darian is super excited to be working with thoroughbreds and is a pleasure to have in the stable and part of the team.
