Monthly Wrap - August

This month’s winners!

August was a solid month for the team, with all racing moved to the all-weather, tapeta surface at Devonport, the track condition suited plenty of our horses with some very strong results kicking off with Spirit of Wiora taking out the first win of the new season on Sunday 2nd August, as well as the following winners:

Needs to Belong

A stand out result from this gelding on only his second race start - what a star! Winning his race on Sunday 23rd August over 1150m, he also picked up $20k as part of the TASBRED bonus scheme. He came to us from the 2018 Magic Millions sale from the Armidale Stud draft - 4g Needs Further x Backwhereibelong.

A big congratulations again to the connections and our jockey, Siggy Carr for a great ride.

Kombacy

Winning the 8th at Devonport on Sunday 30th August, ridden confidently by Bulent Muhcu. Wind and grey skies didn’t make for the nicest conditions trackside, but these two took it in their stride. Team JKB also did their great work getting our horses into top condition and ready for the track, as always.

Congratulations to all involved with this stunning horse.

If you are considering purchasing shares in a yearling - perhaps adding to an already existing list or taking the leap for the first time! - There is an extra bonus on offer that might make taking that leap a little more enticing. The TASBRED Incentive Scheme is available to yearlings which meet the eligibility requirements and offers a winners bonus of up to $20,000 for eligible races.

There are 72 races which are part of the program across Tasmania with a shared prize pool of $1.5 million. Visit our yearlings page to see which of our crop are eligible for the bonus and feel free to get in touch with any questions you may have.

A Boost from Tasracing

The Tasmanian racing industry received a major boost this month with the Government announcing that they will be putting a further $660,000 into the prize money pool on offer. The boost comes thanks to some additional returns on the new point of consumption tax which was introduced in January and applies to all betting operators where their net wagering revenue from bets placed in Tasmania exceeds the annual tax-free threshold. Essentially this means that the extra funds are being injected straight back into our industry which is a great result, and could mean some really exciting wins are on the cards for the remainder of the racing season!
