Monthly Wrap - June
Return to racing, frosty starts and an impressive run at Flemington.
June was a huge month for the team at JKB Racing with the return to racing in Tasmania on Sunday 14th June in Launceston and following in Hobart and Devonport after that.
The first Sunday back at the track wasn’t overly kind to us in the weather department with rain, wind and cold temperatures making it a tough day at the office for our strappers in particular! Unfortunately, our stable wasn’t able to produce any winners on the day, but we did have some really promising runners. With the track at a heavy 9, it also made hard going for some of our horses.
Triple Strip
In between Tassie races, a stable favourite now with Patrick Payne, we had Triple Strip run a really impressive 4th at Flemington - a bit more luck and she would have been a touch further up the field but showed great promise amongst the Victorian horses, especially for a first up race on the big stage. It’s always exciting for us to see our Tassie horses doing well when they cross Bass Strait!
Onto Hobart on Sunday 21st June, which was a great day for the team. It was only the 3rd meeting on the new track down south, so we were excited to see how it would shape up for our runners. We were awarded with a brilliant ride and win from Costero, as well as notable second placings by Silver Road and Golden Egg.
June racing wrapped up in Devonport on Sunday 28th June. While we didn’t have any winners, it was the first time that the public were allowed back at the track with social distancing in place, so it was great to see some atmosphere!
So, what else has been happening? Apart from some very chilly, frosty starts over the past few weeks (-5.5 in Longford one morning!), our team are up in the dark and working harder than ever to get our horses in their best condition as we move towards the spring. Many of our yearlings are now in the exciting stage of being broken in and have had plenty of interest recently, so if you are interested in ownership, be sure to view this page.
