A flying start to racing 2021.

The JKB Racing team have well and truly hit the ground running in 2021.

The new year has brought with it some exciting and rewarding results for our team. We’re keen to keep the momentum up as we head towards the always popular Launceston Cup on Wednesday 24th February, but before we do, see below what made January 2021 a pretty great way to kick off the year. A big shout out as always to our amazing team for showing up each and every day and working so hard, we couldn’t do it without you!

January results wrap up

Longford Cup - Friday 1st January

GLASS WARRIOR took out one of our most favourite race days (after all, it’s basically our backyard!) - the 2021 Cressy Chaff Cutters Longford Cup under sunny skies on the very first day of 2021. We were lucky to also win it in 2020 with Triple Strip so we are feeling very blessed to have such wonderful owners that support our stable.

Launceston Night Racing - Friday 8th January

A very successful night for JKB Racing with the following results:

  • SWOOP DOG taking out the $100K Unique Doors & Windows Tasmanian Guineas, ridden by Kyle Maskiell.

  • SUPER SWOOP taking out the $30K Carlton & United Breweries Brighton Cup, ridden by Craig Newitt.

  • BLAZE FORTH was a very gallant 2nd in the Winzenberg Handicap

Devonport - Monday 11th January

An impressive quadrella and hugely rewarding day for the team at Devonport with wins for PORT BERRY, PHENOMENAL DANCER, FRENCH HEIRESS and RODESSA

Launceston - Wednesday 20th January

A thrilling night under lights at Mowbray for the team with two feature race wins. SWOOP DOG continued his impressive form with a win in the $100K Kevin Sharkie Launceston Guineas, while BLAZE FORTH took out the $50K Ladbrokes Stakes. Both horses were taken to the finishing line in perfect rides by Kyle Maskiell.

Launceston - Wednesday 27th January

Congratulations went to the connections of MARIPOSA on taking out the Steve’s Liquor Maiden at Mowbray. Codi Jordan rode her so very well again. Mariposa also picked up the TASBRED Bonus meaning an additional $16,000 for owners on top of the $11,560 prize money. What a terrific incentive to purchase your next horse at the upcoming Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

What’s next?

February is always an exciting and busy month for thoroughbred racing in Tasmania. We’ll welcome our next crop of yearlings out of the Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sales on the 22nd February which has this year been moved to an open air site at Quercus Park (the home of Agfest). Following that will be arguably our biggest race day of the year, the Ladbrokes Launceston Cup on Wednesday 24th February.

And finally, a message from the team at JKB Racing

Recently the Tasmanian racing industry lost one of its passionate supporters. The memorial service that followed in the wake of this sad news reminded us how important it is to come together in the tough times to support each other. We are part of an industry which experiences many highs and exciting times, but these times are balanced by their fair share of sombre times both on and off the track. We know we are fortunate during these times, our peers have banded together to offer support and kindness to each other.

It can be tough to reach out for help, but it is absolutely OK to not be OK. There are some amazing resources available to those who need it at any time, so never be afraid to ask. If not someone you know to turn to, then the below organisations are always on hand to offer assistance.
